    HCMS 9,  Williamstown 2

The Henry County Wildcats’ middle school soccer team beat Williamstown 9-2 on April 22. Devon Shaw and D. J. Aneszko each scored three goals in the first half while Williamstown scored one.

With a brick wall defense from midfielder Devon “Mac” McIntosh and Luke Yantz and overwhelming speed from Charles Taylor and Parker Stephens the Demons could not get set up in an offense to score.

  • EHS Archery Competes

On Monday, March 18, the  Eminence archery team competed in the Kentucky Nationals Archery in the Schools tournament held in Louisville. The high shooter for the team was Braedin Hinkley.

  • Lady Cats go 0-5 in rough week

The Henry County Lady Cats had a rough week with five losses, three of which came by one run. The Lady Cats lost close games to Shelby County, Gallatin County and Fern Creek and dropped a four-run decision to George Rogers Clark in a game that was closer than the score indicated. Western Hill defeated the Lady Cats by 10 runs in four innings in the opener of the Western Hills Invitational tournament.

The Lady Cats took on Gallatin County April 23 and came out on the short end of a pitching duel.

  • Taylor Made act of kindness

Shayn Straughn, a freshman at Henry County High School, was the recipient of a random act of kindness a couple of weeks ago.

Straughn was on the Henry County golf team this past fall and has only been playing for a couple of years. Shayn describes his game as ‘a work in progress.’

Like many young aspiring golfers, Straughn’s equipment was of the hand-me-down variety. You might describe his equipment as well worn if you want to be kind.

  • There is good in the world

On Monday, April 15 I got a text in the midst of trying to write what felt like dozens of reports on baseball, softball and track. I was also distracted by the events in Boston like everyone else in the country that day.

The text was from a former colleague. It said, “I may have a pretty good human interest story for you if you get the time to call this week.”

  • Henry sweeps in Cats' fight

The Henry County Wildcats capitalized on errors in a doubleheader with Gallatin County, winning both games Saturday.

The Cats got strong pitching from Seth Williams and Brad West and good defense to work out of a couple of jams on their way to a 7-0 win in the first game.

After a scoreless first inning the Wildcats broke out for four runs in the second inning.

  • Freshman goes to the wall...

The Henry County Lady Cats needed a big catch from freshman left fielder Shelby Ray to hold on to a victory over host Owen County in a district seeding game last week.

    They got it.

Owen County trailed 9-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but rallied for four runs and had the bases loaded with two outs when Ray snagged a deep hit that was destined to be a walk-off home run for the Lady Rebels.

Coach Jon Kasten described the final tense moments:
