    Erick Butler, Cody Hinkel and Luke Magness took different paths to the Thomas More Saints, but the former Henry County Wildcat teammates are playing football together again for the first time in four years.

    Butler, a sophomore, played his first year at Thomas More after one year at Pikeville College. Butler left Pikeville after his freshman year and sat out a year before transferring to Thomas More.

    The college basketball season got under way last week and already the Duke Blue Devils have ruined our victory lap.

    Fear not Wildcat fans.

    When you look at the room for growth that the Wildcats have as compared to the veteran Blue Devils it should warm your heart. Duke will not get a whole lot better this year. Kentucky will.

    I like Kirko Bangz. He is from Houston and went to the same high school that my mom taught at.

    Texas for football and North Carolina for basketball.

    Shelby and Sydney are seniors on the Lady Cats’ basketball team.
    What are your hobbies?
    Shelby: Going to the lake (Taylorsville) and going to UK football and basketball games.
    Sydney: Hanging out with friends and going to the lake.
    What about non-school activities?
    Relay for Life team co-captains, New Castle 1st Baptist Church Youth Group, and Henry County Youth Coalition.
    How about school clubs?
    FBLA, FOR Club, KYA/KUNA, Pep Club, Beta, Student Council, National Honor Society and FCA.

    It’s time to look back at the fall sports season and pick out 5 highlights for the Eminence Warriors sports teams. All in all, it was a good year for the Warriors’ fall sports teams. They managed to win a fair number of games with young rosters. That should bode well for next year’s fall sports season.

    Picking the number 1 highlight of the HCHS fall sports season was pretty easy this year. Every high school athlete’s dream is to reach the highest level of competition-the state tournament. Despite a rough season for Henry County sports teams there were some exciting moments for some very young and inexperienced teams.

    The theme throughout the fall season has been youthfulness.

    I know I have repeated that often in these pages over the past three months, but the numbers just don’t lie. I went through the end-of-season rosters of all 11 local sports teams and came up with a grand total of 21 seniors playing fall sports at Henry County and Eminence.

    Eric Phillips is a 2010 graduate of Henry County High School and is a sophomore at the Cumberlands.

    Phillips is in his second year on the Patriots’ cross country team. This year, Phillips was part of the top seven runners for the Patriots which means he counted in the team scoring. Phillips set a personal record in the 8000-meter (about 5 miles) run on Sept. 15 in the Cedarville Invitational with a time of 27:34. He ran in the mid to low 28 minute range most of the season.

    I listen to just about every kind of music. I’m really into Bruno Mars and a new artist named Ed Sheeran right now.
