Here are questions asked of new Henry County Middle School Principal Emily Edwards and her replies as the 2023-24 school year nears its start.

1. Educational background: I have a BA in English Education from Berea College, a M. Ed. in Reading Education from the University of Louisville and an Ed. S. in Educational Leadership from the University of Kentucky.

2. Work experience: I started my teaching career at HCMS teaching 7th and 8th grade Language Arts. I taught ELA for 12 years at HCMS before transitioning into the role of Instructional Coach. After 4 years as Instructional Coach, I became Assistant Principal. I’m entering my 20th year in education, and all of my time has been at HCMS.

3. Why do I want to be principal?

I am so excited to step into the role of principal of HCMS. I love our students, staff, families and community, and I am honored to be able to continue to serve them in this new role. During my time at Berea College, I learned the importance of serving a community and the importance of education. When I started my career at HCMS, I found a community that I loved and wanted to serve. I strive each day be a servant leader in my work at HCMS.

4. What do I hope to accomplish?

This year, our theme at HCMS is “Proud to be a Wildcat.” I am immensely proud to be a Henry County Wildcat, and I want our students, staff and families to be proud as well. Over the past year, HCMS students had amazing growth and our school culture strengthened. As principal, I want to continue growing students and make sure that HCMS is an amazing place to be.

5. What can students and families expect from me as a principal?

Students and families can expect for me to work hard to ensure that students grow and feel successful. They can also expect me to partner with them to support their students.
