The Bland Ballard Chapter of the NSDAR conducted a memorial service commemorating the ultimate sacrifice by Henry County’s own in WWI on the courthouse lawn Sunday, Nov. 11. In addition to Veterans Day, Nov. 11 also marked the 100th anniversary of the catastrophic “war to end all wars.” Carla Gerding read the poem “In Memory of My Boy,” written by Katerhine Vories Meek, mother of Fielding Meek, who died during WWI.
